Great Price "Algebra and Trigonometry- 2nd Edition (with Video Skillbuilder CD-ROM )" for $113.00 Today

I recommend this book as a quick review of Trig or as extra help along with the textbook for those learning Trig. This book impressed me because it is straightforward and easy to follow. I am terrible at math and I always make dumb mistakes, but this book has all the answers worked out. I used to sit there for hours trying to figure out why I was getting all the answers wrong when I thought I understood how to do the problems. After I bought this book, I was able to see what my mistakes were and correct them within seconds of doing the problem. You might still need help from a person occasionally if you're confused about something in the book, but for the most part this book is better than a tutor because it is more efficient. Instead of waiting for someone else to figure out what your mistakes are, you can just compare your work to the book's!

If you're great at math this book is a great review book because it goes quickly through the essentials in an organized fashion. There is no fluff. If you're trying to cram, it tells you what's most important.

Algebra and Trigonometry- 2nd Edition (with Video Skillbuilder CD-ROM ) Overviews

This best selling author team explains concepts simply and clearly, without glossing over difficult points. Problem solving and mathematical modeling are introduced early and reinforced throughout, so that when students finish the course, they have a solid foundation in the principles of mathematical thinking. This comprehensive, evenly paced book provides complete coverage of the function concept and integrates substantial graphing calculator materials that help students develop insight into mathematical ideas. The authors' attention to detail and clarity, as in James Stewart's market-leading Calculus text, is what makes this text the market leader.

Great Price "Fundamentals of Algebra and Trigonometry" for $155.25 Today

I do not know about you. But I can study math a lot better if the book has a hard cover. This first chapter assumes you are coming from ground zero and is good to read just to brush up or see if there is anything new, that you missed originally. There is a smooth transition and a gradual complexity as you go from the fundamentals through the subject. Now some people will complain that it is not all practical or applied. This was not designed as a course for practical or applied. However it sure helps when reading other books tat can only explain tings in at least rudimentary math.

Even the fundamentals of trig are needed to follow The Ascent of Man by Jacob Bronowski. Now I call that practical.

Fundamentals of Algebra and Trigonometry Overviews

This classic in the series of highly respected Swokowski/Cole mathematics texts retains the elements that have made it so popular with instructors and students alike: it is clearly written, the time-tested exercise sets feature a variety of applications, its exposition is clear, its uncluttered layout is appealing, and the difficulty level of problems is appropriate and consistent. Now this Ninth Edition of Fundamentals of Algebra and Trigonometry has been improved in three important ways. First, discussions have been rewritten to enable students to more easily understand the mathematical concepts presented. Second, exercises have been added that require students to estimate, approximate, interpret a result, write a summary, create a model, explore, or find a generalization. Third, graphing calculators have been incorporated to a greater extent through the addition of examples and exercises as well as the inclusion of a cross-referenced appendix on the use of the TI-82/83. All of this has been accomplished without compromising the mathematical integrity that is the hallmark of this text.

If it wasn't required for class, I would have returned it. - Kal Arakawa - Denver, Colorado
This book is completely awful. There are VERY FEW EXAMPLES to guide you through new concepts. Instead, the authors substitute jargon-rich and verbose explanations of concepts. Rather than separating out essential formulas and definitions, the book loses essential information amongst pages of blabbering. As a consequence, you will spend hours trying to find the information you are looking for. Problems are titled differently from concepts, leading to more confusion when you try to find the corresponding problem solving method. Problems/Equations differ from those covered in the concept section, and explanations are NOT provided in the text or answers (at back of the book).

If this wasn't required for my online course, I would have returned it. Unfortunately, I can't return my copy now that it's sustained so much damage (from being thrown across the room). I found a much better book for at the corner bookstore. If you need to teach (or re-teach) yourself Algebra, this book will be NOT do the job.

Great Price "Algebra and Trigonometry with Analytic Geometry (with CD-ROM, Make the Grade, and InfoTrac)" for $15.99 Today

I use this book for my tenth grade algerbra 2 honours class. It has very good examples and is very thourough with the information. However, we never go beyond halfway through the practice problems because after the first ten or so sets, the problems are so challenging and difficult, it becomes a time waster to spend all our time going over such hard equations. It is a very good textbook, and the CD is handy.

The classic in the series of highly respected Swokowski/Cole mathematics texts retains the elements that have made it so popular with instructors and students alike: its exposition is clear, the time-tested exercise sets feature a variety of applications, its uncluttered layout is appealing, and the difficulty level of problems is appropriate and consistent. The goal of this text is to prepare students for further courses in mathematics. This book is set apart from the competition in a number of ways: it is mathematically sound, it focuses on preparing students for further courses in mathematics, and it has excellent problem sets. This edition has been improved in many respects. All of the chapters include numerous technology inserts with specific keystrokes for the TI-83 Plus and the TI-86, ideal for students who are working with a calculator for the first time. The new design of the text makes the technology inserts easily identifiable, so if a professor prefers to skip these sections it is simple to do so.

College Algebra (Lial/Hornsby/Schneider Series) Review

I am teaching from this book this summer, and I have not had the problems that other reviewers have described. This book is written for people with a pretty good understanding of high school algebra - after all, it is a college algebra book. It is not watered down at all, and the material is presented in some depth. However, I have found that this book does a really good job of warning students about common mistakes. I have found it clear (I can't say that for every algebra book I've used.) and my students have not complained, either. I would use this book again.

Review - Ana L. Cristobal - California, USA
I was extremly pleased, with my purchase. The book was in great condition and arrived quickly.

This book is why people hate math. - J. Davis - Knoxville, TN
If you're hoping to do well in your mathematics course or just learn math on your own time, you've chosen the wrong book.

The sections provide very little lead-in, and are filled with a few examples, which may or may not help you do the homework problems at the end of the section. Many times you will find formula notation different from the standard that all other textbooks use, so if you move onto the next level of math, you will see entirely new (Easier) ways of learning the material.

This book only works sufficiently if you've been through precalculus/calculus sequence already and are looking for just a quick cheap refresher on some algebra, which is probably why it is appealing to college professors. If purchasing a different book is an option for you, go for Blitzer or Larson's Precalculus text.
